Steam Shower vs Regular Shower

Our showers, and the style of shower we have in our homes can be a very personal choice. For the most part, we rarely share our shower time. We escape to it in times of stress or after a long hard day of work. There is something special about washing the funk of a bad day from our skin. Not to mention its something we do in the nude. Few things are more personal than that so its important to choose the best type of shower for our homes. We could choose a traditional shower with all the variety and options available.

Or, we could go non-traditional with a steam shower. In ways, it is much like having a steam room built right inside your bathroom. Ariel Platinum Steam Shower and Tub At first look, a steam shower looks much like your traditional shower stall. One of the first things you may notice is how, when the stall door closes, the inside is sealed to keep the steam contained. You can still have your choice of shower heads with a steam shower. You will have a digital control panel mounted in the wall and an opening called a steam inlet. Hidden out of sight is the steam generator. A small tank where the water is boiled, generating steam that is then released into the shower stall.

So which is better? Should you stay traditional or add some steam to your life?

For the most part, a steam shower has everything that a traditional shower has. You can even get a steam shower with a bath tub. With steam, however, you add a layer of relaxation and healing above and beyond what the shower already provides.

Counting the Cost

wealth-69524_640 Preference only goes so far. Sure, I'd love to drive a Jaguar F-TYPE convertible but realistically, all I can afford is a Kia Forte. So as much as we would love to always go with our first preference, cost is also a major consideration.
  • To install a traditional shower stall, excluding labor, the cost can be as low as $500. This would be for the base grade shower stall. Of course you can spend more for a more elaborate shower. Labor costs can add an extra $200 to $300 to the installation if you go with a contractor.
  • To install a steam shower, excluding labor, would be a minimum of $2,000 and as high as $6,200. Unlike the traditional shower, steam showers are permanent fixtures and installation is more involved. Upkeep can also be more costly. More space is needed for the steam generator so for a remodel the available space may be a concern.
For some of us, the shock to our bank account is the only factor we see. For others, the cost may mean very little compared to the natural healing benefits of steam. Remember, count the costs and weigh your options. Choosing the best shower for you is a personal choice.
